HALBERDIERS

Halberdiers are good in almos everything, like damage, hitpionts, etc but they are very slow, and you have to wait until the FORTRESS AGE to get them. Unlike most other units, every civilization that can get them, gets them allready upgraded to veteran. Tey are basicly like pikemen but better. they can be trained in the barracks, and it takes 33 seconds

PIKEMAN

Pikemen are heavy infantry, with a high speed, and they can be trained in barracks. They are very effective against cavarly, but not so much against artillery. Pikemen are usually used as front line, to go and kill of horses or other units that get in the way, whilst crossbowmen, or longbowmen shoot everyone else from behind. They take 27 seconds to train. They can be trained in the COLONIAL AGE.

MUSKETEERS

Musketeers are a general unit they can be trained in nearly every civilization, in the COLONIAL AGE  they are weak against artillery and light infantry, but strong against cavarly. The britis and the portuguese can upgrade them to royal guard. for Portugal they are called  guerreiro, and for England they are called redcoats. Musketeers can be trained in the barracks, and it takes 30 seconds.

UNITS

Over the next pots, I will be showing you the varios stats and advantages of each of the units, starting of with the basic ones, like musketeers, pikemen, halberdier, hussars, dragoons etc. and then I will be exploring all the unique ones from each civilizations. I hope you enjoy!

ISTANBUL

The ottomans are the civilization with most unique units, they have the janissary, which is like a musketeer but better, the abus guns, which are a combination between a falconet and a skirmisher. they also have spahis, which are heavy cavalry, that you can only get through home shipmnts, and cannot obtain through barracks or any other building like that, They also have galleys, imams, and the great bombard, which is the best artillery in the game.

The Ottomans produce settler from the home city but they come much slower, and they can reach a maximum of 99, when you have bought all the upgrades in the mosque  for it. Another advantage is that they can build an artillery foundry by the second age, so that they have a strong artillery force by the COLONIAL AGE.

Since most of istanbul's troops are artillery, even though they are very effective against infantry, horses can easily kill them of. they also don't have a big variety of military troops, because if we consider that they can't get the spahi unless its by home city, that means that they only have hussars, and cavalry archers. since they get to many villagers, sometime they'l get to many, and that will mean that they don't have enough to make an army to defend or attack the colony, so lots of times they will have to sacrifice villagers.

LISBON

The Portuguese, have a very slow start, because even though they get 1 extra villager at the beginning, they cannot have home city card that deliver them, because they get an extra cover wagon at the start of each age. That also brings them an advantage, which is that they can cover lots of the map quickly and they can train villagers fast in the middle of the game. Portugal' best units are dragoons, which can be upgraded to royal guard, and their musketeers, which can be upgraded to that level also. They also have cassadors, which are like skirmishers, but with more attack and less defense, and they have organ guns, which are like falconets, but multishooting, and that are extremely effective against infantry.

Since the Portuguese cannot get falconets or grenadiers, it makes it virtually impossible to have a good siege attack until the imperial age when they can get mortars, and another weakness, is that since they can't get villagers via home city cards, in case of a very low economy it makes it impossible for them to get villagers. Another weakness is that since they have a very slow start they are vulnerable to rushers.

ST. PETESBURG

The Russians star off with 100 wood and 500 food, to start with a good economy, their halberdiers and musketeers train 25 percent faster, and they can also train strelets, a very cheap but weak unit. They train infantry and villagers in groups, which makes them train faster. they have a very weak military, but the best defense in the game, because with the right card they can allow their musketeers to build forts, even though the limit is still 3. Instead of having barracks, they have blockhouses, which also allows them to shoot at enemies, like an outpost, which means that they can build them in the first age, so that they can have a good, fast rush attack by the time they get to the COLONIAL AGE

the only weakness that the russians have, is a very weak military, because their units have 20 percent hitpoints and attack, so that when they face their enemies, their armie must be much bigger.

BERLIN

The Germans start of , in the DISCOVERY AGE, with the settler wagons, which are the fastest villagers in the game, but can only be achieved through the home city at the beginning, or with special cards. they receive free Ulhans thither nearly every home city shipment, but these cost more experience. Germany has one of the best offensive military in the game, but unlike the Spanish, it cannot be used as a rush strategy, but as a slower one, because their military takes time to achieve its full potential. Germany´s best units are the Doppelsnoder, the Ulhan and the War wagon.

Since Germany get Ulhans with every home shipment, their armies will consist mostly of cavalry, and since the Ulhans have a low HP, they could be easy to defeat with a couple of Pikemen or Halberdiers, and if they have maximum population, and they want to send a card, it will be impossible, because they cannot remove the Ulhan and just get the home city card. germany can´t get a two falconet shipmen in the third age like other civilizations

Germany´s best card are: "Germantown farmers" which enables settler wagons to be trained from mills,"Tilly´s dicipline" (COLONIAL AGE) which makes all infantry move faster but cost more, and "Burgensmeister" which lets you build town centers and outposts faster

SEVILLE

The Spanish have a mostly offensive civilization, and a quite stable economy. its best units are rodoleros, lancers, and missionaries, and galleons. They also have war dogs, which can be trained by the explorer, plus you get one extra at the beginning of each battle. The Spanish , have a very good rush attack, and they can get XP and home shipments 27 percent faster. they also have good cards that improve their soldiers, like "caballeros", which improves their lancers so that they attack x4 against infantry.

Their disadvantages are that all their good units are heavy infantry, so that makes them vulnerable to civilizations with a strong light infantry, like Portugal with their royal guard dragoons and their cassadors, and the French and German with their royal guard skirmishers. one of the best cards of the Spanish, is unction, which gives all their missionaries more attack, but less life, but even so, against Portugal, France, or Germany they will still be crushed.

PARIS

The french civilization, has a great economy, due to its coureurs des bois, that gather much faster that the average villager, (also costs more), and a great military, because of its cuirasseirs, that have massive attack and defense, when upgraded to the maximum. Like the coureu des bois, these also cost a lot.

The French civilization has also got a very strong alliance with the natives, for example, they have more cards about them, and you also start with a native scout that can turn invisible.

Some of the good French home city card include:"code napoleon, which lets your villagers gather 10 percent faster but buildings cost much more, and "garde imperial 1, garde imperial 2, garde imperial 3, garde imperial 4 and garde imperial 5, which give you young or old grenadiers, depending on which you take ( they all cost money, but some more than others.

LONDON

With the british, you get a very fast start, due to the fact that manor houses spawn villagers when built, and if you have lots of gatherers on wood, you'l be able to advance very quickly. The objective is to get to the third age as fast as possible because that's when the british military gets good.

Later on in the game, you can upgrade musketeers and hussars to guard, but my favorite units are the imperial lonbowmen, because if you have, for instance 30, you select them all to attack just one unit. and they kill it, and since longbowmen have got a very good range, and they reload very fast, sometimes you can kill of the opponent before they even reach you.

Some of the best british card include, "florence nightingale", so that you manors slowly heal nearby units, "fast building houses", or the "glorious revolution", which provides you church with special british improvements.

AMSTERDAM

This civilization is one of my favorites, because villagers cost gold, and gold can be produced by banks. Before you start, remember to put your extra banks, as cards, because in the end, it will make a big difference.

in the first age, instead of putting so many people on wood, put lots 4 or 5 on gold aswell, and like I mentioned in one of my last posts, (DISCOVERY AGE ) by the end of the first age, you should start putting more on food. The dutch have a very slow start, but its compensated by the fact that they get gold 10 percent faster. even so, advance to the colonial age as quickly as possible, maybe with 515 or 16 villagers, bet remember to make at least one bank befor advancing.

Once your in the second age, make sure to make barracks and stables, and most important of all, villagers, keep making banks aswell. with Amsterdam, you can't train musketeers, but you can train skirmishers in age 2 instead of three, and you can train rutyers too. Another disadvantage of the dutch is that you don't get 2 falconets as a shipment in the 3rd age.

INDUSTRIAL AND IMPERIAL AGE

In these last 2 ages, you need to concentrate mostly on the military, because you should have so many villagers, that resources is not a problem. your armies should consist of horses, to attack enemy cannons, pikemen, or halberdiers to attack the enemie's  horses, ranged infantry, to have a ranged attack ( musketeers, longbowmen, skirmishers etc.) and lost of canons so that they can blast your opponent to bits, or destroy buildings fast. while your army is attacking, prepare another one, to replace it, and heal the survivors of the last battle.

As soon as you get to the 4th age, get you factory cards and set them to heavy cannons, then improve them to imperial cannons in the 5th. they are the most effective weapon, and will kill most units in 1 or 2 shots, plus it has a big area of damage.

FORTRESS AGE

In this age, the first thing to do is to get a fortress, and place it between you and the enemy. with your fortress, you can train all kinds of units plus is will fire cannonballs at anyone that gets near it. By this stage you should have at least 45villagers, and a small army you should have improved mills, markets, and armories. but nonetheless, keep making more villagers, more mills, keep improving the economy, keep improving you armory's improvements, and most important of all, keep improving you military units.

In the meantime, build an artillery foundry and start making falconettes, and as soon as you have 3 or four, send in your army to attack, and while they are attacking, make a second army, so that when the first on dies you can send in the next one. Target the enemie's fortress first, the its barracks, then the outpost, and then the town center and the rest of the buildings. Use your fortress as a resting piont and build a church so that you can make mink to heal your damaged units.

advance to the next age when you have upraded all your military units,(only upgrade the ones that you are using) and all your technological and economic advancments

Play Age of Empires 3 Step 16

COLONIAL AGE

By this time, you should have at leas 20 - 25 villagers, or more, and you must have built 2 or 3 outposts, lots of houses and a mill if possible. The first thing to do is to build a barracks and some stables. when those are ready make some basic horses and send them to attack the enemies villagers, but retreat them when the villagers take refuge in the town center or outpost. If your horses have not been damaged, send them back in after a few moments, and you'll see that the villagers are there again. Repeat this until you have killed most of their villagers. this gives you a great advantage, because with very few villagers the enemy will not be able to grow an economy big enough to make an army.

At the same time as doing this, you must create a little army to defend yourself in case of your horses dying, and the enemy attacking you. you should also keep making villagers, but unlike the discovery age, spread them out more evenly. always keep 1 or 2 villagers making more houses, more outposts, an armory etc. you can even make walls if you want. But the most important is to make more barracks and stables so that you can produce troops faster.

you should try to advance age as quickly as possible, but remember to improve all economic and technological advancements to before.
